6 Reasons Why You’re Not Sleeping Well

A quality seven to eight hours of sleep each night is one of the keys to a healthy life. However, many of us suffer from poor sleep, and there are plenty of reasons why. Discover some of those reasons why you’re not sleeping well ahead.

Sleep Apnea

A common reason why many people have sleeping issues is that they suffer from sleep apnea. There are a lot of signs that you or your partner may have sleep apnea, but the most common is snoring. If you feel that you have sleep apnea, you should seek medical attention to get the proper treatment.

Diet

Another reason why you’re not sleeping well may be due to your diet. There are many types of food out there that can disrupt your sleep. A way to avoid this is to have a lighter meal a few hours before you go to bed. You should also avoid drinking liquids a few hours before going to bed as well, especially sugary or alcoholic drinks.

Physically Inactivity

One of the great benefits of being physically active is that it can improve your sleep. If you are someone who doesn’t get regular exercise, then this could be detrimental to getting quality sleep each night. Adopt a regular exercise routine, but make sure you aren’t doing it too close to your bedtime.

Blue Light

Many people make the mistake of being on the phone, watching TV, or using a computer right before falling asleep. This can be detrimental due to the blue light emitted from the screens. Some ways to combat this is to either read a book to help you fall asleep instead or wear glasses that can block the blue light.

Old Mattress

You may also be experiencing pain as you sleep, and it might be because of your mattress. If your mattress is over ten years old, that is usually a tell-tale sign that you should invest in a new one. Some other signs besides back or neck pain include hearing squeaks and seeing noticeable sag.

Mental Health

A final reason why you might be having issues sleeping could be related to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or stress. Seek medical help if you are suffering from anxiety or depression. If you are dealing with a lot of stress, take some extra time to wind down before going to bed by doing something enjoyable like reading a physical book.
